Ballot boxes in elections for People’s Assembly opened in Syria

SANAA,July 19 (YPA) – The Supreme Judicial Committee for Elections in Syria announced on Sunday the opening of ballot boxes for voters in all electoral centers in the governorates to elect members of the People’s Assembly for the third legislative role.
According to the “SANA” agency, the Syrians participate in this merit to choose 250 members to represent them under the Dome of the People’s Assembly from 1,656 candidates, including 200 women candidates, through 7,277 centers in all Syrian governorates.

According to the General Elections Law No. 5 of 2014, the election begins at seven in the morning of the day specified for the election and closes at seven in the evening that day. The decision of the Supreme Elections Committee may extend the election period for a period of five hours at most, in all or in some polling stations .

The People’s Assembly assumes the legislative power in the country under the constitution by issuing legislative decrees, approving the general budget, declaring war and peace, and ratifying foreign treaties. It also exercises control authority over the government by holding ministers accountable and withholding confidence from one or the entire government.
