TAIZ, June 30 (YPA) – Armed clashes erupted Monday inside the Al-Thawra General Hospital in Taiz province, southwestern Yemen, Medical sources said
According to medical sources, an armed group belonging to a wounded man calld “Walid al-Zaghif” stormed the hospital and exchanged fire with the hospital’s guards of the Hospital.The sources pointed out that the hospital suffered significant material damages in the doctors’ clinic and some hospital facilities.
In a statement on Twitter, MSF confirmed that Heavy shooting broke out inside the premises of Al-Thawra General Hospital in #Taiz City where MSF’s office is located after a group of armed individuals forced their way into the hospital’s compound. Luckily, no person was injured in this incident.
The MSF said that health facilities and hospitals must remain weapon-free zones. All armed individuals and groups must respect the humanitarian and neutral status of hospitals, and should ensure protection of health facilities under any circumstances.
The armed incursion into the hospital was not the first, and was preceded by a similar incursion carried out by Islah gunmen.
Al-Thawra General Hospital in Taiz has been subjected to several incursions in the past months. The last raid was carried out by gunmen belonging to the so-called 170th Air Defense Brigade, Al-Thawra General Hospital, and killed a soldier who was rescued to the hospital after being injured during clashes between the two sides on January 13, 2020.
