Saudi forces bomb STC’s camp in Socotra

SOCOTRA, June 29 (YPA) – Saudi forces on Monday bombed a vicinity of a military camp belonging to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militias in Socotra Island, in a new escalation against the pro-UAE council, local sources said.

This coincides with Riyadh’s call for the governor of Socotra loyal to Hadi  to Riyadh amid arrangements to return him to power.

According to the sources, Saudi forces had fired a number of shells targeting  the air defense of the 1st Marine Brigade, which is under the control of the STcC.

The shelling coincided with the STC’s attempt to start shipping heavy weapons out of the island.

The developments come at a time when Saudi Arabia is arranging for the island to return to Hadi’s authority, days after it handed over the UAE-backed militias.

The STC’s military moves indicate that  its militias has effectively lost control of the island after Saudi Arabia formed a committee led by the Minister of Fisheries in Hadi’s government to begin the process of handing over state institutions to Hadi’s Governor Ramzi Mahrous, who was summoned by Saudi Arabia to Riyadh following his return from Oman to Mahrah province.
