SANAA, June 24 (YPA) – Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation Abdelmohsen Tawoos on Wednesday called for contracting with farmers to produce improved seeds in their fields to achieve self-sufficiency.
This came during the meeting held in Sanaa, in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Abdulmalik al-Thawr, to discuss providing farmers’ needs of the improved seeds and how they can contribute to the development and food security.
At the meeting, Tawoos emphasized the need to adhere to quality standards and specifications in examining seeds and ensuring their safety and that they are free from plant diseases and pests before distributing them to farmers so as to serve the agricultural sector in achieving an appropriate proportion of food security.
In turn, the Minister of Agriculture affirmed that the Ministry, in cooperation with the Supreme Council, would seek to develop, promote, and support seed production for grain crops to contribute to achieving food security.
