UN Secretary-General expresses concern over raids on residential neighborhoods in Sanaa
NEWYORK, May 10 (YPA) – The UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffith, expressed his deep concern about the sharp escalation in Yemen, in particular the coalition air strikes on a government building in Tahrir densely populated district of the capital Sanaa, a cording to a statement issued by Griffith spokesman obtained by Yemen Press Agency on Thursday.
All parties of the conflict must respect international humanitarian law, including taking all necessary measures to protect civilians, Griffith said.
“All violations of international humanitarian law should be thoroughly investigated, and those responsible must be held accountable,” Griffith added.
The Secretary-General appealed to the all parties to refrain from further escalation because that has a negative impact on opportunities for peace.
Antonio noted that a political settlement through a comprehensive dialogue between Yemenis is the only way to end the conflict and address the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
