135 CSOs call UN to press for ending war, siege on Yemen

SANAA, June 15 (YPA) – About 135 civil society organizations (CSOs) in Yemen on Monday called on the international community and the United Nations organizations to press for stopping the war and lifting the all-out blockade imposed by Saudi-led coalition on the country.

The organizations demanded, in a statement, that the international community and the United Nations pressure the aggression coalition countries to release the food, medicine and fuel ships held by them and to allow them to reach the port of Hodeidah.

The statement also called for a quick intervention to allow the engineering teams of the Ministry of Oil and Minerals to carry out maintenance works for the floating crude oil tank “Safer” in order to prevent oil leakage from it.

In their statement, the CSOs deprecated the weak position of the United Nations and its humanitarian organizations and bodies and their silence on the arbitrary restrictions imposed by the coalition countries on the entry of basic commodities and fuel to the port of Hodeidah.

The CSOs held the United Nations, its humanitarian agencies and organizations and Envoy of the UN Secretary-General fully responsible for the repercussions resulting from the unjust blockade and the maritime piracy being plasticized by the coalition on the fuel ships.

The statement also warned of the risks of leakage of crude oil from the Safer floating tank and its effects on the environment in the Red Sea.
