FM: Coalition states’ escalation undermines peace efforts

SANAA, May 9 (YPA) – Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf on Wednesday said Saudi-led coalition countries’ military escalation during the past period undermines the efforts currently being made to achieve peace in Yemen.

This came during the minister’s meeting with Deputy Director of Operations at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Antoine Grand, who is currently visiting Sanaa.

At the meeting, Sharaf expressed his condolences on the death of Hanna Lahoud, a staff member of the ICRC mission in Yemen, who was killed in Dhabab area of Taiz province controlled by Saudi-backed militias last month.

Sharaf praised the ICRC’s role in Yemen, reiterating the government’s keenness to facilitate the work of the ICRC’s mission.

Grand affirmed the Committee’s readiness to provide all possible support to Yemen in order to contribute to alleviating the human suffering of the Yemeni people.

The meeting discussed the cooperation fields between Yemen and the ICRC.
