Rocket attack hits Green Zone in Baghdad

SANAA, June 11 (YPA) – A rockA rocket attack targeted the heavily fortified Green Zone in central Baghdad, which houses the main Iraqi government offices and the US embassy, the Iraqi security media said in a statement on Thursday morning.

There were no immediate reports about casualties, but sirens were heard in the zone, the statement read.

The rocket was fired near the People’s Stadium, “east of the capital,” the statement explained.

“The Green Zone in central Baghdad was targeted by a Katyusha rocket,” The Sumerian News quoted a security source as saying.

“A Katyusha rocket landed today in the Green Zone in central Baghdad, causing material damage without causing any casualties,” he said.

“A security force cordoned off the area, and sirens were heard in the US embassy,” he added.
