North Korea cuts contact with its southern neighbor

SANAA, June 9 (YPA) – North Korea said on Tuesday that it will cut hotlines to communicate with South Korea in a first step in preparation for cutting all contact with Seoul, according to a report published by the North Korean Central News Agency.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un presided over a political party meeting on Monday, and this comes after bold threats by his sister towards South Korea.
The agency quoted North Korean leadership as saying: “We have come to the conclusion that we no longer have anything to discuss at the negotiating table with the South Korean authorities, which over time is only disappointing.”
The agency noted that the decision to cut ties was taken as a result of a meeting held on Monday, on reviewing the performance of the departments concerned with South Korea affairs, in which it was emphasized that “South Korea’s affairs should be seen as matters with enemies.”
A statement of the meeting said: “After considering our interim plans to deal with the enemies to accurately settle accounts with traitors and scum on their crimes, a directive was issued first to cut all lines of communication entirely between the north and the south.”
The decision to cut ties will take effect from 12:00 on Tuesday, June 9.
