About 30 percent of infections or 2 million cases recorded in the United States, while Latin America has the second highest infections with more than 15 percent.
The number of COVID-19 deaths is close to 400,000 globally, while the number of deaths in the United States is about 110,000, the largest in the world today.
The United States recorded about a quarter of the deaths, but victims in South America are growing at a rapid pace.
The number of deaths from COVID-19 infection in just five months is equal to that of malaria, one of the world’s deadliest infectious diseases.
On 11 March, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the coronavirus COVID-19 as a global epidemic.
To date, more than 6.7 million people worldwide have been infected with the coronavirus with nearly 395,000 deaths, according to a WHO report.
