American demonstrators set fire to White House
SANAA, June 1 (YPA) – American Demonstrators sparked some fires near the White House on Monday to protest the killing of an African American citizen, George Floyd, by police in Minnesota.
The demonstrators piled road signs and plastic barriers and set fire to the center of “H” Street.
Some pulled an American flag from a nearby building and threw it into the fire, and others threw tree branches into the fire, according to the Associated Press.
All of the 1,200 members of the Washington DC National Guard were called up.
The demonstrators also burned a number of cars in areas surrounding the White House.
In one of the videos, a man dressed in the famous Bat-Man movie appeared as demonstrators cheered for him as smoke billowed from the burning fires.
The mayor of the US capital, Washington, Morr Bawzer, imposed a curfew at the city level from 11 pm to six in the morning (local time), in addition to summoning the National Guard to support the police, after the capital witnessed mass protests, vandalism, and looting for the second day in a row.
With the escalation of tension in many parts of the country, the US President announced the readiness of the military forces to intervene quickly to deter the riots accompanied by violence towards the demonstrators.
Trump called on local states in the states to be more strict in dealing with them, threatening to use “unlimited military force” if necessary.
Floyd, 46, was killed on Monday, after being arrested by the Minneapolis police, and public anger increased after a video clip showing an officer kneeling on his neck appeared.
Since then, protests have spread in most states of the United States against police brutality, and a curfew has been imposed in most major states such as Washington, DC, and Virginia, and the National Guard has been called up.
