STC’s militia take control of 1st Marines Brigade in Socotra

SOCOTRA, May 1 (YPA) – Militias of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council on Thursday took control of the headquarters of the so-called “1st Marines Brigade” affiliated to “Hadi’s government” on Socotra Island.

The STC’s President Aidroos al-Zubaidi, resident in Abu Dhabi, appointed commander of the third battalion defecting from the brigade Abdullah Ahmad Kanzahar, who is loyal to the UAE, as commander of the brigade, according to local sources.

This comes after three battalion from the brigade announced their accession to the STC’s militia, in April, and two battalions last February.

Meanwhile, the STC’s militias imposed earlier in the day their control over the eastern and western entrances of the city of Hadibu, the capital of Socotra, after clashes with Islah Party’s militants.
