Yemen’s UNESCO condemns events threatening Socotra’s natural, cultural heritage

SANAA, April 29 (YPA) – The Yemeni National Commission for Education, Culture and Science (UNESCO) on Wednesday condemned the events taking place in Socotra Island, which represent a serious threat to the island’s natural and cultural heritage.

Secretary-General of the Commission Dr. Ahmad al-Rabei, in a statement to the official Yemeni News Agency (Saba), held the conflicting parties there responsible for what the reserves and the natural and cultural heritage landmarks have been exposed to on the Island and what they may be exposed to in future.

Dr. al-Rabei called on the international organizations to quickly move speed, reject, and condemn any prejudice to the natural reserves and heritage that are unique to the island, and to demand the removal of the occupation forces from it.

It is noteworthy that UNESCO announced the inclusion of Socotra Archipelago in the World Natural Heritage List in 2008 for its unique biological diversity in the world.
