SANAA, May 6 (YPA) – Saudi Arabia has signed an agreement with the Vatican to build churches for Christian worshipers living in Muslim countries, including the kingdom, according to the Daily Mail newspaper reported on Friday.
The deal, reported by media outlets in the Middle East, confirmed that Saudi Arabia and the Vatican had agreed that the government in the Kingdom would help Christian to worship in new churches in Islamic countries.
The agreement came during a visit by the head of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, to Saudi Arabia, who met with the royal family this year.
The agreement was signed between Cardinal Tauran and Secretary General of the Muslim World League Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, the first of its kind in the history of Saudi Arabia, according to Arabi-21 website.
There was no immediate confirmation from the Vatican and Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia has no Christian churches in its land.
During the three years of the war against Yemen, the Saudi regime destroyed more than 75 mosques with direct air raids targeting Yemeni mosques, especially in Saada province.
