SANAA, Feb. 27 (YPA) – Special Envoy of Secretary-General of the United Nations for Yemen Martin Griffiths on Thursday said that Yemen stands at a crossroads if concessions and restraint are not made at the military level.
“Yemen is now at a crossroads, either agreeing on a comprehensive mechanism to reduce the escalation and resume the political process, or enter a new phase of greater escalation,” Griffiths added during two-day consultative meeting he held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, with experienced Yemenis.
Griffiths pointed out that the United Nations can not wait for a long time, at a time concessions can be made for a solution and an end to war and conflict, so that the state does not collapse and the social fabric does not continue to be dismantled.
He stressed the importance of making concessions in Yemen between the belligerents, easing military escalations and practicing restraint in the face of the escalating fighting.
“We have made sure that you are here in this consultative meeting to help us find steps aiming at making the political process succeed in accordance with the peace plan,” the UN envoy said.
