SANAA, April 30 (YPA) – Sudan’s parliament has called for withdrawal of Sudanese troops participating within the Saudi-led Arab coalition in the war on Yemen, Sudanese Akhbar al-Youm newspaper reported.
“We have been against the participation of the armed forces and the rapid support forces in the military operations in Yemen,” the newspaper cited a press statement issued on Monday by the parliamentary “Change” bloc in the Sudanese National Council as saying.
The statement noted that hundreds of Sudanese soldiers have fallen in Yemen war, considering the participation a violation of the Sudanese Constitutional and Law, because the parliament has not approved it.
The parliamentary bloc demanded President Omar al-Bashir to withdraw troops from Yemen immediately, calling on the government to take political positions supportive of peace in Yemen.
This move is the strongest step faced by the Sudanese president regarding the leasing of his country’s troops to the Gulf states.
A Sudanese lawyer before two weeks filed a lawsuit against al-Bashir, accusing him of selling and leasing the Sudanese army and asking him to compensate Yemeni victims from his own funds.
A Sudanese parliamentarian already put forward embarrassing questions before speaker and members of the parliament, wondering if Sudan can fend off any Yemeni missiles targeting Khartoum.
