Shura Council discusses difficulties facing fish sector

SANAA, Jan. 6 (YPA) – The Agriculture, Fish and Water Resources Committee of the Shura Council on Monday held a meeting chaired by Speaker Mohammed al-Aidrarous, in the presence of Minister of Fish Wealth Mohammed al-Zubairi.

The meeting discussed difficulties facing the fish sector, the optimal exploitation of fish resources, and ways to support fishermen, as well as a number of proposals aimed at increasing productivity of fish wealth.

In the meeting, al-Aidarous hailed efforts made by the Ministry of Fish Wealth to develop and protect fish wealth, encourage and rationalize its investment and exploitation, and raise the level of its production.

He referred that the ministry’s activities come in the framework of the steadfastness and economic recovery stage, which is the title of the work axis in light of the national vision for building the modern Yemeni state according to directives of the Supreme Political Council and the Salvation Government.

During the meeting, the Minister of Fish Wealth reviewed the Ministry’s efforts to care for fishermen and provide them with the necessary support, despite the scarcity of the resources caused by the continued aggression and the siege.

Al-Zubairi also touched on the difficulties that faced the ministry’s work during the last period, including the prevention of fishermen boats from fishing off the Yemeni coast by the aggression coalition battleships that target them repeatedly with deliberate bombing.

In this regard, the minister indicated that 268 fishermen were killed, a large number of them were wounded and many others were arbitrarily detained by the aggression forces, in addition to targeting of the fish landing centers along the western coast.

He stressed the importance of developing laws and legislations related to fish activity so as to serve the increase of national income and support the national economy.
