ICRC: release of Saudi detainees is positive step
SANAA, Jan. 2 (YPA) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) considered the release of six Saudi soldiers captured a positive step.
The committee stated in a statement that it facilitated the return of six detainees from Yemen to Saudi Arabia, based on an agreement between the Saudi authorities and Ansar Allah.
The committee expressed the hope that this step would be a reason for the release of more detainees due to the conflict and their repatriation.
The commission confirmed that it was acting as a neutral intermediary and had not participated in any prior negotiations for the release.
Freya Rady, deputy head of the ICRC delegation in Yemen said, “We are delighted to see momentum happen with the release of detainees, which is taking place on both sides.”
