217,000 Yemenis will suffer in Dhalea, after 12 organizations stopped their activities due to attacks: Reuters

SANAA, Dec. 24 (YPA) – About 12 relief agencies in Dhalea province, southern Yemen, have suspended their work after the attacks on their offices, which the United Nations described as an “alarming escalation”, amid media campaigns against the relief organizations, Reuters Agency reported on Tuesday.

“The offices of Oxfam and International Rescue Committee were exposed Tuesday morning to missile strikes,” Reuters said.

“The attack wounded one person, destroyed many properties and caused 12 organizations to suspend relief programs in Dhalea, affecting 217,000 beneficiaries,” Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations Mark Lowcock said in a statement to media.

Lowcock added that he hoped for a thorough investigation and that he was still concerned about the continuing media campaigns spreading rumors and inciting relief operations.

Oxfam confirmed in a statement issued Tuesday that its office was hit by RPGs and an explosive device, but no one was injured.

In turn, the International Rescue Committee said that relief workers are not the target, but who will suffer the most are those innocent Yemenis who have been benefiting from the work of the organizations.
