Polio vaccination campaign in “capital Sanaa and provinces” to be lunched on Monday

SANAA, Dec. 20 (YPA) – The Ministry of Public Health and Population to launch a three-day Polio vaccination campaign next Monday in the capital and other provinces.

The national program’s expanded immunization campaign, in collaboration with the World Health Organization and UNICEF, targets 5.5 million children under the age of five who have already been immunized as well as newborns to eradicate the polio virus in Yemen.

Ministry of Health spokesman, Yusuf al-Hadari said the ministry has completed all the arrangements to launch the campaign in all provinces.

He explained that the polio vaccination campaign is the result of the spread of the virus in some countries of the region, which raises fears that it could return to Yemen, especially in the current circumstances as a result of the continuing and escalating aggression against various districts and provinces.

Al-Hadai urged parents to vaccinate children under the age of five, including those who had not been pre-immunized against the disease as well as newborns, and not to listen to tendentious rumours targeting immunization campaigns.

He called on leaders and members of local councils, the media, sheikhs and social figures to cooperate to make the campaign a successful and to protect children from this deadly disease.

Al-Hadiari stressed the importance of everyone’s sense of responsibility and ensuring that children are vaccinated and protected from deadly diseases.

“Keeping Yemen polio-free is a responsibility for all members of the community and not just the Ministry of Health, he said.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Health pointed out the need to join popular efforts to achieve the goals of the immunization campaign and reach the greatest number of target children.

“Vaccine doses given to children during immunization campaigns are an additional dose to enhance their immunity and do not dispense with routine immunization,”he concluded.
