Water Minister calls on donors to review UN organizations’ corruption in Yemen

SANAA, Nov. 27 (Saba) – Minister of Water and Environment Nabil al-Wazir called on all international donors who trust the United Nations to review the corruption and misuse of Yemeni funds within these organizations, which collect funds in name of Yemen’s children.

The Water Minister also called for reviewing the background of UN organizations’ staff working in Yemen, who had been expelled from other countries on the background of corruption and were rewarded by hiring them in Yemen with very high salaries.

In a meeting held by the ministry, the minister pointed out that the UN allegations that it spent $ 205 million in 2019 for the water and environment sector in Yemen are not true, which was confirmed by Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation Abdulmohsen Tawoos.

Al-Wazir confirmed that the Ministry of Water and Environment has not received a dollar, or a riyal from the United Nations.

“The United Nations is using the suffering of the Yemeni people to make money, and we do not rule out the emergence of a scandal such as the scandal of Iraq (oil for food),” he said.

The minister called on the concerned authorities to continue combating the corruption of the United Nations in order to not use the war and aggression as an excuse to violate Yemeni sovereignty in all its forms.
