Military spokesman: First official report on 1977 assassination of President Ibrahim al-Hamdi to be released

SANAA, Nov. 25 (YPA) – The first official report on the assassination of Yemeni President Ibrahim al-Hamdi will be published on Tuesday, Yemeni army spokesman, Yahya Sare’e revealed on Monday.

The report “contains important details that the people have the right to see,” noting that “the reason for the delay in the publication of the report is due to the obtaining of new and important information,” he stated.

Sare’e pointed out that the publication of the report is “in response to the popular demands to disclose the circumstances of the case and those involved in it.”

On October 12, Yahya Sare’e announced that “an official report will be issued, the first in 42 years, to disclose new information on the assassination case.”

“The first official report on the assassination of the martyr President Ibrahim al-Hamdi will include the disclosure of the most prominent perpetrators of the crime, with documents and testimonies,” Sare’e concluded.

Ibrahim al-Hamdi was a revolutionary leader, and the highly popular left-wing nationalist President of The Yemen Arab Republic from 1974 to 1977.

During his rule, he defendes the goals and mission of the September 26 Revolution of 1962, greatly developed the country and opposed US and Saudi imperialism. He was assassinated under highly suspicious circumstances in 1977, with most traces pointing at Saudi Arabia being the culprit.
