Boeing Insitu ScanEagle drone shot down in Asir

ASIR, Nov. 1 (YPA) – Yemen’s army spokesman, Brigadier Yahya Sare’e on Friday said that ” air defenses of the army and popular committees shot down a US made spy plane off Asir province, southern Saudi Arabia.

According to the military spokesman, ” Boeing Insitu ScanEagle Spy Drone was downed, while carrying out surveillance missions in Asir.

” The drone was shot down at lines of contact off Asir in southern Saudi Arabia,” he added.

Scaneagle worths 11.25 million dollars. It is an autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), that locates targets from the air.

This drone is small in size compared to its counterparts in the regular armies, which facilitates its transport.

It is  also equipped with a surveillance camera (Electro optical) and other infrared camera.

This type of drones emerged during the US war on Iraq, where more than 1000 sorties were carried out over Iraqi areas.
