SANAA, Oct. 24 (YPA) – Minister of the Public Health and Population Dr. Taha al-Mutwakil on Thursday discussed with Head of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)’s Humanitarian Section in Geneva Shoko Arakaki ways to enhance the partnership between the Ministry and the Fund.
During the meeting, dr. al-Mutwakil reviewed the suffering of maternity and childhood in Yemen in light of the continued aggression and siege, referring that there are one million births a year, of which 5,000 women die.
He touched on the ministry’s vision on the reproductive health, including maternal and child health, stressing the importance of providing services for this group as one package.
The Health Minister demanded more support for the ministry, confirming the ministry’s keenness on facilitating the Fund’s work to do its humanitarian role in providing support for the health sector in Yemen.
The UNFPA’s official praised the Ministry’s cooperation, confirming the Fund’s readiness to cooperate to implement the Ministry’s vision on motherhood and childhood.
