President of Indonesia sworn in for new term
SANAA, Oct. 20 (YPA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo was sworn in on Sunday for a second five-year term, leading the world’s third-largest democracy after a first term with heavy infrastructure spending, according to Indonesian mediaز
Widodo, who came from outside the military and political elite, has pledged to attract more investment into Southeast Asia’s largest economy and focus on improving the country’s human resources in the second term.
He was sworn in amid tight security and authorities deployed more than 30,000 security personnel in Jakarta after recent student demonstrations and after a suspected takfiri stabbed the security minister this month.
