Indian Guha assumes duties as head of UN Mission in Hodeidah

HODEIDAH, Oct. 6 (YPA) – The retired Indian Lieutenant General Abhijit Guha has assumed his duties as Chief of the Redeployment Coordination Committee and the United Nations Mission in support of Hodeidah Agreement, succeeding Danish Lieutenant General Michael Lollesgaard.

“Very glad to welcome my good friend and colleague General Guha who assumed his duties as the head of the UN mission in Hodeidah,” UN envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths said in a tweet on Saturday night.

Griffiths continued: “I am looking forward to working together for the implementation of the agreement. Wishing him every success.”

Indian General Guha is the third head of the UN mission in Hodeidah in less than ten months since the announcement of Sweden Agreement.

On September 13, UN chief appoints Indian Abhijit Guha as new head of Hodeidah mission. Guha brings 39 years of national and international military experience to the position. He has led a number of UN investigations in Africa and the Middle East.
