SAADA, April 18 (YPA) – UNICEF condemned the Saudi attack on the water project of the in the Directorate of Sihar in Sa’ada that resulted in the total destruction.
In a statement obtained by Yemen Press Agency (YPA), UNICEF said “Saudi-led coalition warplanes targeted the Hazmat water project for the second time after it was targeted in 2015 by coalition aircraft.
UNICEF said that the project, implemented in 2017, serves 7,500 people and displaced people in dire need of water in that area.
UNICEF’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Khairat Kabalari, said that UNICEF implemented the Hazmat water project in 2015 and was destroyed but in 2017 the organization rebuilt it for the population and provided clean and safe water before it was destroyed again last week.
The statement added that UNICEF had provided the project with a solar energy system to pump drinking water in the region.
Saudi-led coalition warplanes have targeted focused significantly on targeting the water facilities in Yemen, in which Saudi-led air strikes destroyed more than (8010) water source within three years, according to monitoring reports and documentation from human rights organizations.
