ICRC expresses concern over crime of targeting Dhamar prison

SANAA, Sept. 1 (YPA) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Sunday expressed concern over the bombardment of a prison in the central Yemeni province of Dhamar, saying it had sent a team to provide emergency health care.

“We are concerned about information on the bombing of a prison in Dhamar province,” the Committee said in a tweet on its account in Twitter. ” It is a detention center that we have been visiting regularly.”

“An ICRC team carrying urgent medical supplies can treat up to 100 critically injured people and 200 body bags is heading for Dhamar province following the air strikes that killed dozens of the detainees,”the ICRC’s delegation in Yemen said on Twitter.

“We take these reports very seriously. I am on my way to Dhamar to assess the situation,” said Franz Rauchenstein, head of the ICRC delegation in Yemen.

After arriving at the scene, Rauchenstein estimated that the death toll exceeded 100, and the rescue was continuing.
