Coalition calls warring parties in Shabwa to commit to ceasefire

SHABWA, Aug. 26 (YPA) – Saudi-led coalition’s command on Monday called on all conflicting parties in Shabwa province, namely Hadi’s forces loyal to Saudi Arabia and the UAE-backed militias, to commit to the ceasefire and maintain calm.

“The command of the coalition joint forces is following the situation on the ground in the province of Shabwa,” said Turki al-Maliki, spokesman of the coalition in a statement.

He added that a Saudi-Emirati joint committee was formed “to address the events and stabilize the ceasefire in Shabwa and Abyan province s and to complete all efforts and procedures in Aden province.”

Meanwhile, the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council confirmed, in a statement, that it would continue to support “Shabwani elite forces, and strengthen them by all means that enable them to continue their role in the fight against terrorism and secure the province of Shabwa.”

The council called on the coalition to make appropriate mechanisms to monitor the ceasefire.

The transitional council also called on all southern soldiers fighting under the umbrella of the coalition outside the southern provinces’ borders to take a clear position of what it called an aggression on the southern areas under the name of legitimacy.
