Health Minister UN Coordinator discuss health situation in Yemen

SANAA, Aug. 20 (YPA) – Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Taha al-Mutwakil on Tuesday discussed with the UN Resident Representative and Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen Lise Grande the health and humanitarian situation in Yemen in light of the ongoing aggression and siege.

In the meeting, the Health Minister reiterated the necessity of reopening Sanaa International Airport, especially for patients who need to travel for treatment abroad.

Dr. al-Mutwakil said that there are more than 350,000 patients in need for treatment abroad from several diseases, the most important of which are cancerous tumors, kidney failure, heart, thalassemia and other diseases, in addition to the wounded, including children, women and men who were injured by the aggression coalition airstrikes during 53 months.

He called on the UN Humanitarian Coordinator to support the Health Ministry’s efforts to promote the capacities of the health sector and qualify it to provide better health and medical services for the sick and wounded.
