Mohammed al-Houthi criticizes continued ship inspections in Djibouti

SANAA, Aug. 6 (YPA) – Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, a member of the Supreme Political Council has criticized the “continued siege imposed by the Saudi-led coalition, with direct U.S. and British support, on all Yemeni ports”.
He stressed that “the UN mission and the mechanism it achieves from ships is to alleviate the suffering of Yemenis, not to exacerbate them.”

Keeping blockade on the ports is a crime and it is the responsibility of the United Nations to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people and to implement the Swedish agreement,” al-Houthi said in a tweet on Monday night.

“It is surprising that the dialogue is being carried out on the addition of a verification mechanism at ports with the verification mechanism remaining in Djibouti,” he added .

“The survival of the verification mechanism in Djibouti is a burden on the merchant, delaying the arrival of goods to the consumer, endangering its safety and questioning the usefulness of the United Nations’ presence at the port,” a member of the Political Council said, Referring to the text of Sweden’s agreement to transfer the UN inspection mechanism to hodeidah ports.

The coalition and the government of the exiled Hadi are blocking the implementation of the Swedish agreement, signed in mid-December, which stipulated that the United Nations and its supervisory mission would oversee the ceasefire in Hodeidah and transfer its verification and inspection mechanism from Djibouti to hodeidah ports.
