Sudan TMC Chief: We will not extradite the ousted al-Bashir to the ICC

KHARTOUM, July 20 (YPA) – The Head of Sudan’s military Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has announced that the council will not extradite the ousted President Omar al-Bashir to the International Criminal Court, which accuses him of committing war crimes in Darfur.

In a statement to the BBC, He confirmed that he would be tried inside the country because the Sudanese judiciary is qualified and capable of doing so.

Al-Burhan revealed that “no instructions were issued by the council leaders to break up the sit-in of the Army General Command in Khartoum” last June, when paramilitary armed units swooped down on the protesters and killed more than 100 people.

He said that some military commanders were involved in the incident and that the authorities are investigating them in preparation for their trial.

He expected that the negotiating delegations in the transition would reach a quick agreement on the constitutional declaration and stated that a large part of the document had been agreed upon.
