Mahra, July 7 (YPA) – Dozens of residents of Mahra province, eastern Yemen, on Sunday held a protest vigil demanding the release of journalist Yahya al-Sawari, who was abducted by armed militia loyal to Saudi Arabia in the province.
Al-Sawari was kidnapped from Al-Ghaydha Hospital, taken to the Criminal Investigation Prison and then was taken to a prison controlled by Saudi forces at al-Ghaydha airport.
The protestors demanded the quick release of al-Sawari and the stoppage of practices aiming at silencing mouths and infringing press freedom.
They held up banners calling on the Public Prosecution and the judicial authorities in Mahra to take a clear stance towards the abduction of the journalist al-Sawari, confirming their solidarity with him and their rejection of secret prisons.
