SANAA, July 2 (YPA) – The United Nations envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffith, revealed “Russia’s participation in efforts to stop the war and bring peace to Yemen, considering his visit to the Russian capital Moscow within a tour of three countries as “positive” in support of the efforts of his mission.
Griffith said on his tweeter page on Tuesday “I have had a very fruitful meeting with Mr. Lavrov and I am grateful for Russia’s continued support for my efforts and welcome Russia’s constructive participation in our efforts to achieve peace in Yemen.”
The UN envoy to Yemen said in a brief statement on his Twitter account the importance of his visit to Moscow and its goal, saying: “Russia’s support as a permanent member of the Security Council is important to help us reach a comprehensive and sustainable political agreement in Yemen.”
Griffith announced on Friday that he would visit Russia, the United Arab Emirates and Oman to move forward with the peace process in Yemen, explaining that he is “determined to reach a comprehensive political solution to end the conflict encouraged by the commitment of parties and stakeholders to engage with him.”
It is noteworthy that the UN envoy Martin Griffith arrived in Riyadh on Wednesday, his first visit after the declaration of exiled president Hadi and his government boycotted to protest the Griffith ‘s praise of the initiative of the Salvation government to “the unilateral implementation of the plan of the Chairman of the Coordinating Committee for the redeployment of forces in Hodeidah and ports” and his request “the other party in a similar step” .
