Yemen launches campaign to fight desert locusts

SANAA, June 19 (YPA) – Yemen’s Agriculture Ministry on Wednesday launched a field campaign to combat desert locust pest.
Deputy Minister Majid al-Mutawakel said the ministry commissioned 10 field combat teams equipped with equipment to combat the locusts to protect farmers’agricultural crops in al-Haqal filed in Dhouran Anas district in Dhamar province.
“The spread of locusts heavily in agricultural areas is a real threat in targeting the grain crops and vegetables in Yemen,” al-Mutawakel said.

Al-Mutawakil called on international organizations related to food security to support Yemen’s efforts in the fight of the desert locusts for reducing the economic damage.
