Human rights activists close UAE embassy in Brussels

BRUSSELS, May 29 (YPA) – Yemeni and foreign rights activists on Tuesday closed the entrance of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) embassy in the Belgian capital Brussels with iron chains to protest against its crimes in Yemen and other countries.

The activists hung a large banner at the entrance to the UAE Embassy, read “Closed for UAE crimes.”

Human rights activists also painted the ground leading to the entrance to the embassy with red paint as a reference to the ongoing crimes against civilians in Yemen and other countries in which the UAE involved.

The activists chanted slogans condemning the UAE’s killing of children and civilians in Yemen, and the practices of torture practiced in secret prisons in the south.

They called on the international community to pressure the UAE to stop its war and crimes against civilians in Yemen, pointing out that this war came to pass the agendas of colonialism.

The UAE, along with Saudi Arabia, has led the war against Yemen since March 2015, killing and wounding tens of thousands of civilians, including children and women, and has brought Yemen because of its war and its ongoing blockade into the worst humanitarian crisis according to UN reports.

International reports accuse the UAE of committing horrific crimes in its secret prisons in south Yemen, as well as the crimes of assassinations and kidnappings carried out against those who oppose its policies.
