SANAA, May 1 (YPA) – Head of the National Committee for Prisoners Affairs and member of Sanaa negotiating delegation Abdulqader al-Mortada has offered the other party an initiative to conduct an exchange of prisoners on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.
In a post on his Facebook page, al-Mortada confirmed that the committee’s readiness “to carry out an exchange of prisoners with the other party (Hadi’s Saudi-backed government), under which a minimum of 1000 prisoners from both sides will be released.”
Al-Mortada affirmed that the prisoners’ issue is humanitarian and it could not tolerate partial disagreements, indicting to the suffering of thousands of prisoners in prison while their families are waiting for them.
“The implementation of the exchange of prisoners requires a strong will and a sense of responsibility towards the prisoners’ suffering from all sides,” he said.
He confirmed that any exchange process does not represent a loss for any party as much as a positive step to build confidence and demonstrate goodwill.
