Egyptian authorities close border with Libya

SANAA, April 28 (YPA) – The Egyptian authorities have closed the Musaid port on Sunday with Libyan, a Libyan security official said.

“The Egyptian side closed Sallum crossing border between Libya and Egypt from 9 p.m. on Saturday night, until further notice for security reasons,” the security source told reporters.

The general command of the Libyan National Army, led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, announced the launch of a process to eliminate what it described as terrorism in the capital Tripoli, where the internationally recognized government of Concord is headed by the Al-Saraj.

The latter called his forces to confront the movements of Haftar’s forces, accusing him of leading a coup d’état on the political agreement of 2015.

Since the fall of Muammar Al Gathafi’s regime in 2011, Libya, the oil-rich country, is witnessing various internal conflicts, but the attack launched by the forces of Haftar on Thursday marked a clear deterioration between the two opposing authorities.

Libya’s ruling is contested by two powers: the Government of National Accord headed by Fayez al-Saraj, which was formed at the end of 2015 under a UN-sponsored agreement based in Tripoli, and authorities in the Libyan east backed by the Libyan National Army, led by Marshal Khalifa Haftar.

The ongoing fighting for the UN envoy’s announcement to Libya has led to the postponement of the Libyan National Congress, which was scheduled for the middle of this month.
