Griffiths visits Red Sea port city of Hodeidah

SANAA, Nov. 23 (YPA) – The United Nations special envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths arrived at Yemen’s port city of Hodeidah.

In a press statement held on Friday, Griffiths said” his visit to Hodeidah holds a clear message to the world and the United Nations that the port will remain open to delivery of humanitarian aid.

“We will work  together with the world to avoid Hodeidah city the military confrontations and keep infrastructure and services,” the statement added.

Griffiths stressed the importance to take his responsibility to maintain security in the city and success of peace talks in Yemen.

The UN envoy arrived in the capital Sanaa on Thursday where he met with senior leaders to discuss their attendance in the next round of negotiations, expected in early December.

last week, Griffiths told the UN Security Council that Yemen’s parties had committed to attending peace talks in Sweden before the end of the year.
