Italy’s storms death toll rises to 17 people

SANAA, Nov. 4 (YPA) – The death toll has risen to 17 people due to powerful storms that hit Italy over the past week.

A Germany citizen has died after she was struck by lightning on the Italian island of San Pietro, near the larger island of Sardinia, and another person died in hospital, after he was struck by a lightning strike several days ago, the Italian Civil protection agency said on Saturday.

Many of people have lost their lives in falling of trees incidents, the agency added.

The storms destroyed some 14 million trees, mostly in the far north, The Italian Agricultural Association said in a statement.
