Greece supplies Saudi Arabia with air defense batteries

ATHENS, Sept. 15 (YPA) – Greek Chiefs of Staff announced Wednesday that a team of its armed forces headed to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to deliver air defense batteries used in Patriot missile systems.

During an official visit by Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias and Defense Minister Panagiotopoulos to Saudi Arabia in April 2021, an agreement was signed between the two countries to supply Riyadh with guided air defense batteries.

Greece’s delivery of defense batteries to Saudi Arabia came at a time when the United States withdrew missile defense systems and other military equipment, in addition to soldiers from Saudi Arabia and other regions in the Middle East, as part of a campaign to reposition its mission and forces to confront Russia and China, according to a source at the US Department of Defense.
