Polls close in Syrian presidential elections, counting of votes begins

SANAA, May 27 (YPA) – Polls for the Syrian presidential election were closed as scheduled at midnight Wednesday-Thursday, media reported.

As soon as the boxes were closed, the electoral commissions began the counting process in the presence of the delegates of the three presidential candidates.

Earlier, Syria’s Supreme Judicial Electoral Commission announced an additional five-hour extension of the voting period to close the boxes at 12 p.m. instead of 7 p.m., due to strong voter turnout.

It thanked the Syrian people for their commitment to the constitution and the law while performing their duties and their right to vote without any legal breach recorded in all polling stations

Earlier, Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous said on Wednesday that Syria’s presidential elections would establish an upcoming phase that would bring good and hope to Syria.
