Parliament Speaker: US administration’s intention to classify Ansaruallah as terrorist org will impede peace in Yemen

SANAA, Jan. 13 (YPA) – Speaker of the Yemeni Parliament Yahya al-Ra’i said on Wednesday that the US administration’s intention to classify Ansaruallah movement within the list of terrorist groups does not serve the international trends to bring peace to Yemen.

This came in letters he sent to President of Inter-Parliamentary Union Duarte Pacheco, Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, Secretary General of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, Mohammad Reza Majidi, heads of parliaments in a number of Arab and foreign countries, and Secretary-General of the United Nations.

The letters dealt with the aggravation of the suffering of the Yemeni people as a result of the continuing aggression and blockade imposed on the country by Saudi-led coalition for more than five years.

“The aggression and siege over a period of five years left disastrous effects in various aspects of the lives of the Yemeni people,” Al-Ra’i said.

On the current US administration’s intention to classify Ansaruallah among terrorist organizations, Al-Ra’i pointed out that this would harm the interests of the Yemeni people, increase their suffering, and obstruct trends aimed at achieving peace.

The Parliament’s speaker stressed that “these policies do not serve international trends to bring peace to Yemen and the region in general.”

The letters confirmed the Parliament’s condemnation and categorical rejection of targeting any Yemeni in the Republic of Yemen, holding the current American administration responsible for the humanitarian, security and economic consequences that would harm the interest of the Yemeni people.

In his letters, Al-Ra’i called on the parliaments of the world to reject such approaches that do not serve the peace process.
