National Museum building collapses in Taiz

TAIZ, Sept. 24 (YPA) – A building at National Museum in Taiz province, southwestern Yemen, collapsed on Thursday, local sources said .

According to the sources, the collapse came after the building suffered cracks due to heavy rain that hit the province during the past two months, as well as the lack of maintenance for the building for years.

The sources indicated that the building that collapsed is located west of the museum administration, towards the Faculty of Arts, and was used as the headquarters of the so-called Recruitment and Reserve Division in Taiz province.

The sources confirmed that the façade of the building, its main gate and the rooms at the gate were destroyed.

The building was a component of the royal palace built by Imam Ahmed Hamid al-Din in the 1950s and was turned into a museum after the Revolution of September 26, 1962.
