Ministry of Heath: Over 36,000 cases of dengue and malaria reported

SANAA,Nov. 21 (YPA) – Dozens of civilians have died in various governorates of Yemen due to the epidemic of dengue fever and malaria, as shown by statistics counting cases from January until November 18.

The Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Taha Al-Mutawakil said during the regular meeting of the cabinet on Wednesday in Sanaa that the total cases of suspected dengue fever at the national level have amounted to 36,300 suspected cases.

Al-Mutawakil pointed out that Taiz governorate recorded the highest number of suspected dengue fever cases, with 5,871 by 19.4 percent, followed by Hodeidah governorate with 5,748 cases, and Aden governorate with 4,671 suspected cases.

The minister called upon the relevant international organisations to intervene urgently in combating the epidemics and to provide the necessary medical assistance to the health sector, such as medicine, ambulance services and therapeutic solutions for the infected and suspected patients, as well as take action to avoid further casualties.

The Council formed a Ministerial Committee headed by Deputy Prime Minister for National Vision Mahmoud Al Junaid and members of the Ministers of Local Administration, Water, Environment, Education, Media, Communication and Information Technology, to oversee the operations related to confronting and combating the causes of the epidemic.
