War exhausted Yemen’s economy, cut off livelihoods: EU

SANAA, Oct. 10 (YPA) – The European Union (EU)’s mission in Yemen said on Wednesday that four years of war on Yemen have exhausted the economy, cut off livelihoods and prevented access to basic services.

The mission added in a tweet on its account in Twitter that the years of conflict in Yemen led to widespread unemployment and hunger on a large scale.

The EU mission explained that it is working with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to provide assistance to vulnerable and marginalized groups in the Yemeni countryside to meet daily needs, as well as create opportunities to allow them to settle down and live in dignity and independence in light of the continuing challenges.

In a previous report, the mission had indicated that Yemen would become the poorest in the world if the war continued until 2022.
