Kuwait gives citizenship to 4,000 people in 2019

SANAA, Aug. 3 (YPA) – Kuwait issued Law No. 77 for the year 2019, approving a proposal to grant Kuwaiti citizenship to up to 4,000 people during the current year.

According to the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Anbaa, the law states that “The number of kuwaiti nationality may be granted for 2019 in accordance with the provision of Article 5 of Prince’s Decree No. 15 of the year 1959 referred to by no more than 4,000 people.”

The newspaper added that the explanatory note of the law of 2019 stipulated that “Article 5 of the Prince’s Decree No. 15 for the Year 1959 by the Kuwaiti Nationality Act on the possibility of granting Kuwaiti nationality by decree based on the offer of the Minister of Interior to those who meet the conditions stipulated in the clause.

The article stated that law determines the number of kuwaiti nationality that may be granted each year, by applying the provisions of the article, who met the required conditions and controls, after the search and scrutiny carried out by the relevant agencies.”

It also pointed out that Law No. 12, which was passed in 2018 to determine the number of Kuwaiti nationality to be granted for 2018, authorized the granting of Kuwaiti citizenship to all those who resided in Kuwait in 1965 and before and maintained residence there until a decree granting them citizenship after the offer of the Minister of Interior.
