Saudi Arabia asks Senegal to send soldiers to protect it

SANAA, July 1 (YPA) – Senegal has announced that it will “send 2100 fighters to join the Saudi-led coalition aggression forces against Yemen,” days after Senegalese President Maki Sal’s visit to Riyadh and his meeting with Salman.

“The coalition seeks to defend the holy sites in Mecca and Medina,” Senegalese Foreign Minister Maneker Ndiaye told Senegal’s parliament on Sunday.

Saudi Arabia’s demand for Senegal’s troops four years and three months after its war reflects a growing fear of the Yemeni army and popular committees and implicit recognition of Saudi Arabia’s defeat in their confrontation.

About 30,000 Sudanese troops are participating in the ranks of the coalition forces alongside US and British forces, said Sudan’s military transition committee deputy Mohamed Hamdan Hamidati last week.
