Vigil in front of UN Office in Sanaa condemns WFP corruption

SANAA, June 19 (YPA) – A vigil was organized on Wednesday in front of the United Nations Office in Sanaa, in which the participants condemned the corruption of the World Food Program (WFP) and international organizations exploiting the humanitarian situation in Yemen.

Dozens of representatives of official bodies, ministries, institutions, civil society organizations, public and community actors and different sectors participated in the vigil, which was held under the slogan “We will not give up our dignity for crumbs of aid.”

The participants raised banners rejecting the WFP corruption and chanted slogans against the program policy, which transformed humanitarian action into political, security and intelligence activity.

At the vigil, Acting Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Ali said that Saudi-led aggression coalition after its failure militarily and economically has trended to poison the Yemeni people through the corrupt foodstuffs that enter Yemen under the name of humanitarian aid.

For his part, Undersecretary of Ministry of Agriculture Ali al-Fudhil pointed out that the humanitarian assistance provided by WFP and international organizations were violating the internationally- recognized technical specifications since their first batches.

A statement issued in the vigil refused the exploitation of the suffering of the Yemeni people and threatening to suspend the distribution of aid proved to be expired and incompatible with standards.

The statement called on the United Nations and the international community to take their responsibility for stopping the aggression and lifting the siege imposed on Yemen.
