HADRAMOUT, May 27 (YPA) – The Saudi-backed Hadramout Tribal Alliance is planning to recruit 35,000 young men from the oil-rich Wadi Hadramout districts in eastern Yemen.
Source familiar with the matter in Hadramout said that the alliance’s leader, Amr bin Habrish, opened recruitment for the so-called Hadramout Protection Forces for members of the tribes of the Wadi’s districts.
The source reported this the step by tribal alliance came after Habrish had declared so-called “autonomy” last month and subsequently met with Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman in Riyadh.
The escalation came after the alliance demanded that the Saudi-formed Presidential Leadership Council’s members and the coalition-backed Aden government engage in political partnership and grant Hadramout development revenues from its natural resources, especially electricity.
